Twenty-three years ago, in a small office with big ambitions, Basys was born. Our founder, Brad Oddo, saw a gap in the payments industry—businesses needed a processor that wasn’t just another faceless corporation but a true partner. With a clear vision and a passionate team, Basys set out to change the game.
Today, we’re celebrating 23 years of making payments simple, secure and seamless. It’s been an incredible journey—one filled with innovation, growth and plenty of coffee-fueled late nights. But more than anything, it’s been about the people—the dedicated employees who built this company and the customers who trusted us along the way. Let’s take a moment to look back at where we started, the milestones we’ve hit and the stories that have defined our journey.
The Basys Story: From Startup to Standout
In the early 2000s, payment processing was a complicated, frustrating experience for businesses. Brad knew it didn’t have to be that way. Basys was founded with a clear vision: to simplify payments and provide businesses with a reliable, service-driven partner they could trust. From the start, we set out to create something different—an organization that prioritized long-term relationships, innovative solutions and a commitment to always doing right by our customers.
The first few years were scrappy. Some of our earliest employees, Kim B. and Karen W. (pictured below), remember when Basys was just five people, a copy machine and a big table covered in applications. The small group handled everything—answering calls, onboarding merchants, processing applications—and did it all with a sense of camaraderie that still defines Basys today.
Karen recalls, “Back then, we weren’t just building a business. We were building relationships. We knew our merchants so well that we could recognize them just by their voice.” It wasn’t uncommon for merchants to call just to check in or even talk about personal matters—because at Basys, relationships have always come first.
Kim and Karen started on the same day, 20 years ago, and they’ve had a front-row seat to Basys’ transformation from a processor to a true fintech leader. But even as technology has advanced and the company has grown, the culture has remained the same. “Brad set the tone from day one, and it’s still the same today—transparent, open and focused on doing right by our customers and employees.”

Growing Together: People First, Always
Basys’ success isn’t just about technology—it’s about people. Over the last three years alone, we’ve doubled in size, welcoming incredible talent across departments and strengthening our team like never before. Our award-winning customer service, industry-leading NPS score and loyal partner base are all thanks to the people behind the scenes who go above and beyond every day.
Our culture has always been one of connection and fun. Kim and Karen laugh as they reminisce about the Nerf gun battles that used to break out in the office at 4 PM. It was a small company then, but one that felt like family. They talk about weekend work sessions where they’d come in on a Saturday—Karen bringing her quilt-in-progress—and power through merchant conversions.
That sense of community hasn’t changed. Today, we continue to invest in our team with expanded benefits, professional development programs, and company traditions that keep us connected—whether it’s company outings, volunteer work or celebrating milestones together.
